 THEME:
UNCERTAINTY IN A POST-CRISIS WORLD – DOING MORE WITH LESS

Thursday, December 9, 2010

8.30am – 5.00pm Conference Spot Registration Begins
9.00am – 9.30am Opening Ceremony
9.30am – 10.15am Keynote 1 – The New Normal: Key Learning for Asian Companies
Speaker: Warith Al Kharusi – Ex Head - Procurement, Petroleum Dev. Corp of Oman, Chairman-Oman Logistics Association; CEO, Al-Safwa Group

The economic crisis took every single organization and individual by storm in 2009, culminating into severe repercussions for many and strong signals of austerity for a few. Asia seems to have weathered the storm better than other regions like Europe, Middle East and North America have. Learn how the crisis and the “new normal” created have changed the very face of globalization. Learn the nature of its impacts on corporate bottom-lines, and the consequent decisions relating to partnerships and sourcing engagements.
10.15am – 10.45am Refreshment Break
10.45am – 11.30am Keynote 2 – Sourcing Models – Is The Distinctive Line Morphing Into Core Businesses?

This keynote shall focus on current issues with global economic slowdown, how this has adversely impacted a variety of industries including financial meltdowns and global fiscal write-offs, and what these trends hold for us in the future. This panel shall also address localized/ regionalized impacts on outsourcing / services globalization, with particular reference to the nature of transformation seen in client demands for services. Further, the panel shall deliberate on why clients are placing lesser emphasis on technology or processes, and more on corporate outcomes. Are providers ready and willing to take risks for corporate outcomes?
11.30am – 12.15pm Plenary Panel 1 – Globalization, Services Commoditization, Competitive Markets & Responses from Developing Nations

Determine if commoditization is a necessary evil, or is it a dichotomy to innovation? Further delve into opportunities new age technologies present.
12.15pm – 1.00pm Keynote 3 - Re-visiting an old question: Is outsourcing only for the big boys? The impact of Competitive pressures and New Technologies on perceptions of Scale
Speaker: Dr. Wanda R. Lopuch – President, Global Sourcing Council; President, MDA Associates Inc.

Scale and availability of a large catchment of people has always been a pivotal driver for location assessments, regardless of the nature of talent available and its comparative competencies. Further confusions abound owing to the fact that location evaluations on basis of their “perceived point of scale resistance” seems to have reduced the emphasis on “value creation” and its inherent independence with scale. On the other hand large companies seem to embrace scale as a key driver that can be enhanced by technologies. Is this true? Learn more.

Speaker 2: Ross Foden, Group Chief Operating Officer, AmBank Group
Speaker 3: Jaffri Ibrahim – Sr. Vice President, Malaysia Debt Ventures
The financial crisis impacted everyone –the large and the small. In the midst of bail-outs and fiscal austerity measures deployed, the mid-market / SMB sector seems to have been ignored the most in all discussions surrounding globalization. Most macro-economic indicators have not dealt adequately with this sector, which comprises over 89% of the global corporate sector. Particularly so in Malaysia, given the mid-market nature of most businesses, it becomes pertinent to ascertain not just the impacts but the flexibilities they are bringing to the table. How has the crisis transformed this sector? Have there been radical transformations in the nature of doing business? What do such measures mean for the sourcing marketplace? Hear from the experts.

Moving to the Cloud – a new outsourcing platform or technology break through? Technology, Social Networks & Business Impacts Rise of Developing Nations & Impacts to Capacity Availability

Speaker: Dr. Hong H., Ong, Principal Researcher, MIMOS Berhad

Cloud computing and its ubiquitous ability to resolve the world’s issues seems to have been touted ad infinitum. Is the cloud a new sourcing platform, a new channel for service delivery, or just a new technology that will have to co-exist with other technologies? Is the cloud nothing more than a glorified client-server model of the yesteryears? Is it truly the savior that everyone imagines it is?

Speaker: Michiel de Boer, Head - APAC, Quint Wellington Redwood

Web 2.0, Sourcing 2.0 and other terms have taken the world by storm. Facebook, Mobile apps and LinkedIn on the one end, and Cloud computing, security and utility based services on the other end are buzzwords today. What are their implications to service providers? What should clients look out for?

Moderator: Cheah Kok Hoong, Head-HCM, OM

Speaker 1: Dr. Robert Seges, Head, Outsourcing Divn., Polish Information & Foreign Investment Agency

Speaker 2: Dr. Karl Ng, Head-CDP, MDeC

From the yesteryears’ discussions of India and Philippines being offshore destinations of choice, we now have over 25 countries from 5 continents vying for the same global pie of over $1 trillion in opportunities. How have these changed client expectations, and what do destinations need to do to remain relevant?

3.30pm – 4.00pm Refreshment Break
4.00pm – 4.45pm Parallel Tracks – Future Outlook, Solutions & Benefits
Horizontal Services vs. Domain Orientation – What Works Business Process Improvements, Re-engineering & Modularization Traditional vs. New Age Technology Adoption

Moderator: Bernard Chin – SVP, VADS

Speaker 1: Adam Goh, Manager – Consulting Services, Cuscapi

Speaker 2: Munirah Looi, CEO, Brandt International

Today’s marketplace reflects a plethora of horizontal services with increasingly shorter contracts, putting pressure on vendors. Is domain orientation lacking? Or is the demand risk-averse to trust providers with industry-aligned solutions? Project-based engagements further reduce a provider’s ability to create value for client organizations. Is there a middle-ground? Or is this only a function of industry maturity?

Moderator: Srikrishna Vadrevu – CEO, Sigmax

Speaker 1: Carmen Tang, Executive Director – Advisory, PwC

Speaker 2: Harald Weinbrecht, Partner, Navigos

Speaker 3: Suniel Kucchar, MD, Bank of New York Mellon

Speaker 4: Chai Cheng Sheng, Director, ServiceSource International Malaysia

Transformation has been touted as today’s game-changer. Has it really enabled the sourcing marketplace as much as it should have? If yes, what are the compelling drivers? If not, what are providers not doing to drive home the confidence amongst buyers? Is knowledge of clients’ global spread critical? Is “co-opetition” amongst vendors the way forward, or will competition continue to drive tomorrow’s provider positioning?

Speaker: Ryan Kuan, Global Technology Services, IBM ASEAN

From pricing to delivery models a significant shift is being seen. What role does technology play with in demand complexities? One-size-fits-all models, or a marriage of convenience until the next transformatory technology upends today’s “innovations”? Sourcing for capabilities vs. utility-based needs – compatible?

4.45pm – 5.30pm Plenary Panel 5 – Crystallization of Findings from Audience Participation
Moderator: Bobby Varanasi, COP, CEO – Matryzel Consulting Inc
Speaker 1: Wong Tsien Loong – General Manager, IS, Gamuda
Speaker 2: Rob Cayzer, Director – BMD, MDeC
OM shall present key priorities and findings garnered from participation by the audience on Nov 9th, a result of comprehensive discussions and facilitated interactions. These initiatives shall become the roadmap for the industry going forward
